Four hundred twenty five thousand dollars raised (a 40% increase compared to 2013); three hundred fifty guests, including the Mayors of Boston and Rome; over seventy sponsors. These are the numbers of the third annual “italianissimo! serata di gala”, organized by FICCB and the Consulate General of Italy in Boston to establish Boston’s first Italian Cultural Center as well as to raise funds to promote the teaching of Italian language in local schools.

The backdrop of the event was the iconic Burnham Building (designed by Daniel Burnham, the same architect who designed the Flat Iron Building in New York City), currently in the process of renovation by Millennium Partners. During the evening, produced by Raffanelli Events, guests sampled the delights of “cucina campana”, interpreted by Chef Dante de Magistris, and were entertained by the music of Matt Marviglio and Spajazzy with Stefano Marchese on vocals.

In their respective addresses, both the Mayor of Boston and the Mayor of Rome voiced their strong support towards the creation of the Italian Cultural Center of Boston, which – as Mayor Walsh said – would not only enrich the city but also pay tribute to the Italian and Italian American community of Boston.

“italianissimo! 2014” also provided 10 scholarships to high school juniors that partake in an AP Italian course who will spend a week in Rome during 2015 winter break.

The event was highlighted in the press by the Boston Herald, the Boston Globe and on bostoniano.info
